THE Iranian official news agency IRNA held a debate on “ September 11 a big fabrication”. Pakistani analysts and senior journalists took part into the discussion. The debate was centred on the speech of the Iranian President Mr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad centred on the same topic. The Iranian President maintained in his speech that September 11 attacks on the United States were used to justify the US war on terrorism. He described the destruction of the twin towers in New York on 9/11 as a “ complicated intelligence scenario and act.” He was of the view that 9/11 was a big fabrication and a pretext for the campaign against terrorism and a prelude for staging an invasion against Afghanistan. He termed 9/11 attacks suspicious and accused the West of seeking to dominate the Middle East.
The analysts held diverse views. One view rejected the conspiracy theories and maintained that in no way the US administration could be involved in such criminal activities that go at variance with the US laws and could be easily discovered by the strong US media. However, it was argued that “ insiders” within the US intelligence and security agencies could have helped the perpetrators who carried those terrorist acts. This view relies on the “ controlled demolition” of the attacked twin towers and building 7 that necessitates inside help and very sophisticated explosives that are only available with the US military. Over 1000 US architects and engineers have recently demanded a new investigation on 9/11 attacks “ to save US democracy.”
According to a second theory, US vested interests and special groups that are linked with MNCs could be behind the operation to implement their global agenda.
A third view said that al-Qaeda was behind the 9/11 attacks. The view maintains that the US security system and security agencies were weak, The attackers exploited this point and carried the operation to pre-empt imminent US attack on Afghanistan.
Another view maintains that some intelligence agencies could be aware of the attacks but they let them to happen to use them as a pretext to dominate the Muslim world. This view suggests that key individuals within the US government had at least some prior knowledge of the attacks and deliberately ignored them or actively weakened America’s defences to ensure the hijacked flights were not intercepted
The analysts agreed that the United Nations should hold a neutral investigation on 9/11 attacks to determine and punished those who were involved . They also favoured the introduction of a reform in the UN Security council that ensures the representation of the Muslim world and the cancellation of the veto power since it goes at variance with the basic principles of democracy.
